5 Steps to Prepare for the Week

IMG_9762

Before I delve into the post, I know I’ve been MIA these last few weeks.  I’ve really missed spending time writing and getting to know you all better.  I’ve been so busy with school that I’ve not had much time to be writing.  I’ll be graduating at the end of this month, though, so I will be around much more.  Maybe I’ll even write a little life update on us in the next week or so.  We have so many new changes going on and I can’t wait to share. :)

With school starting this month, a lot of us are already planning for the busier days ahead.  I will be graduating in a couple of weeks, so although I do not start school this fall.  I do have lots of new goals and plans in the works that, if I’m not organized, can get overlooked.  One of my main goals is to focus on this blog and getting to know more of my readers on a personal level.  I’d also love to know what you’d like to read about (email me: [email protected] with your thoughts and ideas!).  There are so many things I’d like to focus on, and I know if I don’t come up with a plan, I will not get them done.  These are just five ways that I prepare for my week.

  1. Take some time to revitalize spiritually

Instead of binge watching TV over the weekend, spend some time in the Word.  It becomes a great way to learn more about Jesus, and relax as well.  It truly is more soothing than spending time on your phone or TV.  Electronics make your mind swirl in thought and do not let you rest, while reading is the perfect key to relaxation.  If you are creative, or just want extra space to jot down notes as you read your Bible, use a journaling Bible like mine.  (Click here to read more about my journaling Bible).  Here you will find even more relaxation as coloring and/or journaling tends to have that effect on most people.

 2. Plan out your week food-wise

I have always made meal plans by just writing down what I want to make this week for dinner.  This past week, I took it up a notch and actually made all of those meals ahead of time.  I put everything stacked up neatly in my fridge and all I need to do is grab and go.  Or, if I am feeling a bit fancy, I will transfer everything to a glass plate for a “nicer” dinner.  It has definitely made the meals for this week flow so much more easily.  I’ve also read on Pinterest about people who make Crock Pot dump meals.  At the beginning of the week, they prepare their crock pot meals and zip lock them uncooked.  Then each day, all they have to do is dump all those ingredients in the slow cooker and let it do it’s thing.  I haven’t tried that yet, but it is next on my list!

3. Plan your errands accordingly

Have you ever found yourself going one place, heading to another, and then realizing you were already in the area for another thing you had to do?  It used to happen to me all the time (and still does if I don’t plan!).  Now, I write down all the errands I have to run and separate them by location and priority.  That way, I save time and gas by combining my errands and I’m not driving all around town for a bunch of little things.  Buy a good planner and let that be of help in planning out your meals, errands and to-do lists.

4. Organize

Something I have found that truly helps make the week flow smoother is taking an hour or two over the weekend or organize my house, clean up the counters, finish any laundry and change the sheets.  It helps me feel like I’m starting the week with a fresh start and motivates me to get Monday started.  If I had to start Mondays with a dirty place and a bunch of laundry to finish folding, I’d really have no motivation to get up and go.  But by giving the house a little clean up over the weekend, I’m more prone to enjoy an early Monday morning in peace with a quiet time or good book before starting my day.  It’s all about setting the mood for a good, productive week.

5.  Spend family time

Once the week begins, everyone gets caught up in their ins and outs and to-do lists and it becomes difficult to really connect with those you love.  It always feels like it’s go-go-go, and not enough time to relax and watch a movie or chat on the couch.  Over the weekend, we try to carve out time for each other and other family to spend time with and connect with.  This always brings us more joy and really puts us in good spirits to start the week.  There is nothing like connecting with those you love to put you in a good mood.

These five steps have really helped me keep my house in order and prepare for the upcoming week.  It motivates me and relaxes me to know that my house is a peaceful, enjoyable place.  I’m always looking for new ways to prepare for the week and make my house a more relaxing and enjoyable place to be, so please share any tips you use to prepare for your week.  I’d love to know. :)
