Crock Pot Ribs

I have grown to absolutely love my crock pot!  For the first two months of marriage, I was afraid to use it (not sure why!), but one day I made a split pea soup there (recipe coming soon!) and it was delicious and oh-so-easy!  Since then, I’ve been trying to experiment more with it!

My husband had been asking me to make ribs at home for easily two months now.  We live in a town home and there are no grills allowed, so I didn’t know how I was going to do this!  I was intimidated at attempting to them at home and was a little scared about making them in the oven.  I was sure I’d burn them! I started looking online and found a recipe for crock pot ribs.  I ended up  changing the recipe I found (something I love to do to make it my own!), and it turned out being a hit.  My husband absolutely loved them!

Here’s how I made them:

First, I flipped the ribs upside down and removed the membrane.  I had never done this before, but it was really quite easy!  All you need to do is slide a knife through the thin white covering on the bottom of the ribs and then just use a paper towel to grab it and pull it all off.  It should come off in one big piece, but you may need to remove little parts after the majority is off.

I then preheated the oven to 425 degrees.  Next, I split the rack in half and put them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.  I then seasoned it with a rub I bought (I didn’t know which to buy exactly so I bought what I thought would taste best and it turned out being a great choice!).  This is the one I used:

Then I put it in the oven for 20 minutes.  After that, I put the two half racks in the crock pot vertically (that is, they’d be standing on the bone, instead of laying down).  I spread some barbecue sauce over it (I used hickory brown sugar) and set the crock pot on low for 6 hours.

My husband and I went out, visited some family and when we came back five and a half hours later, it smelled absolutely amazing (another perk of crock pots)!  I quickly made some delicious red skin garlic mashed potatoes (recipe coming soon as well!) and some corn and dinner was ready.  It really was so simple!

Theres also a little bowl of mac and cheese there because my sister was sleeping over and I know she loves mac and cheese!

Fall Off the Bone Crock Pot Ribs

  • Recipe Type: Meat
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes,  Cook Time: 6 hours and 20 minutes,  Total Time:  6.5 hours
  • Serves: 3-4

Ribs so tender they fall off the bone, covered in warm BBQ sauce… and with just three ingredients, these are SO simple to make!

Ingredients:

  • 1 slab of ribs
  • Favorite rib seasoning
  • Favorite BBQ sauce

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.  Take membrane off the ribs (directions above).  Cut slab into two halves so it will fit in your slow cooker.  Spray crock with cooking spray (I forgot to do this…don’t repeat my mistake.  Clean up was tough!)
  2. Line a large baking sheet with foil and put both halves of ribs on the sheet.  Season both sides of the rib halves with your favorite seasoning.  Make sure ribs are room temperature before
  3. Bake ribs, bone side down, in the oven for 20 minutes.  Remove from oven and place in crock pot on its side (as shown in pictures above).  That is, bones will be vertical in the crock pot.
  4. Pour about a cup of your favorite BBQ sauce onto the ribs, cover and cook on LOW for about 6 hours or until the ribs are tender, but you’re able to take them out without them falling apart.
  5. Heat up some more BBQ sauce and spread over the ribs before serving them.
  6. ENJOY!
