Slow Cooker Autumn Apple Cider

Slow Cooker Autumn Apple Cider= the best fall scent in the world!

Fall is almost here in full swing and I can hardly contain myself.  I want to start making apple crisp and creamy tomato soup every single night.

Although it’s not quite fall just yet, I have gone into full swing Fall Food!  I’m using this blog as an excuse to get in the kitchen and start making fall recipes.

I also have a long list of fall recipes to come.  High up on the list is sharing the Apple Cider Donuts I made with the leftover cider from this recipe.  I’m so excited for that!!

Slow Cooker Autumn Apple Cider is the perfect evening treat after a long fall or winter day. Curl up with a steaming mug of this on a chilly day!

A few weeks back, Mikey and I spent the whole day in the house just cleaning and organizing as well as adding some decor that we had lying around to our walls.  I love how it’s turned out.

Want to know something funny? I always thought after summertime decor comes fall decor.  Well, not around here! Between summertime and fall decor comes FOOTBALL decor, according to Mikey.

Specifically, University of Miami football decor.

I guess that will roll into fall decor sometime soon and stay up simultaneously.  Doesn’t bother me as long as I can have my pine cones and pumpkins in sight! ;)

My favorite part about football season, you ask? Yeah, it’s FALL!

I decided to make a Slow Cooker Apple Cider on that Friday since I knew it would take a long time, but we’d be home all day.  Boy was I glad I did that!

Not only did we have a delicious drink to enjoy at the end of the day, but our house smelled absolutely amazing ALL DAY!

By the way, has anyone heard of simmer pots? I just started doing them and love it! My current favorite is used coffee grounds, a dash of cinnamon and a few drops of vanilla with plenty of water simmering away.

I can’t wait to transition into more fall smells like all spice, or cloves.  Mmm. :)

Anyway, back to the apple cider.  This stuff was amazing! Warm, not too sweet, and really comforting.

I used sugar to sweeten it, but next time I’m going to try honey.  I loved mine topped with some whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel.

All I was missing was a hay ride and outdoor movie (oh, and anything below this 95 degree weather!!) and I would have been set!

I can’t wait to make this when the weather cools off a bit. We made a small, feasible fall bucket list (just 5 items on it!), and a picnic is one of them.

I think this would be the perfect drink to go with our fall themed picnic. I can’t wait!

Slow Cooker Autumn Apple Cider

Total Time 5 hours 22 minutes
Servings 10

Ingredients

  • 6 red apples
  • 2 green apples
  • 1 whole orange
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 4 tbsp. sugar
  • water
  • Topping: whipped cream & caramel optional

Instructions

  • Slice the apples in half (no need to peel, core or remove the seeds.  just make sure there aren't any stickers on them...I speak from experience) and place in crock pot.  Add whole orange. Cover with water until all the apples are covered.  Then add the rest of the ingredients and give it a quick stir.
  • Cook on HIGH for 4 hours.  Come back, give it a stir and see if apples are tender.  If not, cook in one hour intervals until apples are soft enough to be mashed (usually the green apples take longer).
  • When tender, mash all the apples inside of the crock pot. Then using a strainer, pour all the liquid into a large bowl or pitcher.  Throw out the mashed apples and keep the liquid.  Taste and see if you like it that way.  Some people like it a little sweeter so add some more sugar or honey.
  • Serve in glasses topped with whipped cream and caramel if you'd like.  Enjoy :)

I don’t know about such recipes because I live in the Caribbean and haven’t been abroad during Autumn. However, I do love apple so I am pretty sure it’s awesome.

  2. This is the absolute perfect fall recipe- I looooove apple cider and I’ve never thought to make it in the crockpot with real apples!! And, I bet this would be fab with a splash of rum or brandy and caramel ??? thanks for sharing! Pinning for later!

  3. Oh I love this. It’s the perfect fall recipe! I’m so excited for apple picking – this is an awesome way to put those apples to good use ^^. Yum!

  4. Oh my gosh this looks amazing!! I’m definitely going to have to try this recipe ? Just need fall to start feeling like fall!!!

  5. Oh myn sweet goodness, I can already smell how my house would smell with this in my crockpot. I had never really thought of making my own apple cider. I usually cheat and buy the refrigerated kind at the store and pour it in my crock pot with some cloves and cinnamon. It is so good for a little cold especially if you put a little dash of whiskey in the cup ! LOL

I will definitely add this to my Fall to do list!
