Slow Cooker Autumn Apple Cider

Total Time 5 hours 22 minutes
Servings 10

Ingredients

  • 6 red apples
  • 2 green apples
  • 1 whole orange
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 4 tbsp. sugar
  • water
  • Topping: whipped cream & caramel optional

Instructions

  • Slice the apples in half (no need to peel, core or remove the seeds.  just make sure there aren't any stickers on them...I speak from experience) and place in crock pot.  Add whole orange. Cover with water until all the apples are covered.  Then add the rest of the ingredients and give it a quick stir.
  • Cook on HIGH for 4 hours.  Come back, give it a stir and see if apples are tender.  If not, cook in one hour intervals until apples are soft enough to be mashed (usually the green apples take longer).
  • When tender, mash all the apples inside of the crock pot. Then using a strainer, pour all the liquid into a large bowl or pitcher.  Throw out the mashed apples and keep the liquid.  Taste and see if you like it that way.  Some people like it a little sweeter so add some more sugar or honey.
  • Serve in glasses topped with whipped cream and caramel if you'd like.  Enjoy :)
