Have you ever gotten deep into cooking a recipe, only to realize you were missing an ingredient? Yeah, same here. It is sooo annoying and completely nerve wracking at the moment. I am already thinking that this is going to be a failure of a recipe and that I will not have anything ready in time for dinner. I can already see myself picking up a pizza and calling it a night. Not that there is anything wrong with pizza. I love pizza and will gladly have it any night of the week! But once I am on a roll with cooking, I certainly do not want to have to drop everything and waste all of those ingredients.
So, I realized I had to learn to make do with what I had. Yeah, sometimes that meat using beef stock instead of chicken stock. Other times that meant omitting an egg and substituting it with something else. I have been testing out new substitutes for recipes for a while now, and although many people use substitutes these days for health purposes, I will admit mine are solely because I do not have a certain ingredient.
I will start with baking substitutions since that is what I use the most (and honestly, tends to be the trickiest!). I made this into an image you can easily pin to your Pinterest board or print for reference! 🙂
And now, here you have the substitutions I use most when cooking. There are so many more, but it would take a veeeery long post to write them all. haha! If you have any questions, though, feel free to ask! I have many more substitutions. 🙂
There you have it! If you have any other suggestions for any of the above mentioned, or a question, feel free to comment below. 🙂
