This past month I’ve been writing about all the big events in our life, such as when we met and when we got engaged. And now, I’m writing about our wedding day! The day was by far the best of my life and nothing can ever top that! In case you are interested, HERE are the posts on How We Met and Our Engagement Day. :) For a little context, Mikey and I had our wedding rehearsal and dinner three days before our wedding. We agreed not to see each other again after that, to make the excitement even greater. It was definitely hard, but extra fun!)
The day of our wedding, I woke up around 7am. I could not believe the day was finally here (we were engaged for 10 months. Looking back, the days went by relatively quickly, but they felt like an eternity then)! I woke up excited, and not groggy at all. I think that has been the only day in my life that I haven’t complained about waking up early. ;) I took a quick shower and got into a pair of white shorts and a white button down with my new initials on it! My bridesmaids were all going to be wearing the same button down in pink with denim shorts. I headed over to our schoolroom where we were going to get our makeup done. My mom had prepared an array of delicious treats and things to munch on over the course of the day. Everyone always told me I would be too nervous to eat, but I was starving and ate all day!
The makeup artist arrived shortly after I had showered and began with my sisters’ makeup. My cousins, also bridesmaids, arrived shortly thereafter and we had a fun time just laughing and enjoying the morning. I could feel everyone nervous, yet so excited! The photographer and videographer arrived as we were finishing our makeup and began shooting there. When our makeup was done, the girls began getting dressed and headed outside to wait for me. My mom was the only person who helped me into my gown. I took some photos inside the house and then went outside where I did a “first look” with my bridesmaids and some close family. They were all facing away and once I stepped outside, they turned around and got their first glimpse of me all dressed up. Needless to say, there were many tears!
We took some photos together and then went inside where we had a moment of prayer. My bridesmaids all prayed over me and then we waited for the limousine to arrive. The limo was running very late and was getting annoyed at my mom for calling to check up. So in a last case scenario, we took a few different cars. My dad and I took the bridal car, and the videographer came with us. My cousins drove his car and my mom drove her own. Everyone was split up and it was definitely pretty stressful to get to the church…but we all made it! ;)
Thankfully, we all arrived in one piece and the ceremony began! They all walked in, and everything was going smoothly. It was my turn and I walked in with my dad. I had no tears in me at that moment. I was so excited, I couldn’t even cry! We got to the alter and my dad gave me away and our pastor began speaking. About five minutes into that, we noticed one of the groomsmen didn’t look so well, but it was too late. In a matter of seconds, he fainted and was on the floor. We were shocked and had no idea what to do. There were many doctors and nurses in the room, though, so they went to him, we prayed for him and the rescue took him away. A few minutes later, my sister also began shaking and almost fainted…but we caught that one and she was taken to the back of the room.
After that, the ceremony continued smoothly. We wrote our own vows, and recited those to one another. That was definitely a cherished and precious moment. We also did a Unity Cross as a symbolism of our love for Christ and each other. The ceremony was relatively short and we were married! Being pronounced husband and wife was one of the most joyous moments of my life! As we walked out the door, that’s when the tears hit me. I was so absolutely happy and had so many emotions going on, I couldn’t hold them in. It was just such a beautiful time.
After that, we took some family photos and photos of just the two of us outside the church. We also went to a golf course and got some of the most gorgeous shots there. The weather was beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for a better day!
We then went into the reception where we shared our first dance as husband and wife. We danced to the song From This Moment by Shania Twain. The song described our relationship so perfectly. I had previously stressed so much over what song to dance to, but Mikey suggested this one and it was perfect. I’m so glad this is “our song.” I then danced with my dad to I Loved Her First. That definitely moved everyone to tears, but my dad continually told me not to cry, that this was a happy moment. :)
We had dinner, cut our cake and lots of dancing! I had carefully crafted a playlist of all my favorite music for our dinner and dancing. Most for dinner were classics like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Michael Buble. Dancing music was a little more upbeat and modern, but still so fun. (If you’d like a copy of my playlist, go ahead and email me- I’d love to share it with you!) At around 9pm, we began saying our goodbyes and people lined up for the send off. I had always wanted a sparkler exit at my wedding, so my mom planned this and it turned out so nicely! When everyone had their sparklers lit, we walked out and took pictures with them. It was such a fun way to finish off the evening. My cousin lent us her car for us to leave and they had decorated it with paint, cans and balloons. It was such a sweet surprise. And just like that, we said bye to our parents, and were off! We were married. What an adventure! It was a day unlike any other and I was so happy with the way it turned out. It is still such a precious memory and something I love to reminisce about.
Hi Sophia,
Absolutely love your wedding photos! I will be getting married in April and I would like to know the name of the church where your wedding ceremony took place, or if you have any contact info for them.
Thank you,
